2012 Maxwell Adelaide Hills Chardonnay

The grapes were picked in the cold of night to capture the essence of cool-climate Chardonnay. All the juice was barrel fermented, 30% in new French oak using wild yeast and the remaining portion in one and two year old seasoned barrels. The wine was matured in French oak for ten months prior to blending. The result is an attractive wine showing nectarine and peach fruits coupled with roasted hazelnut and spice notes from the well-integrated oak. The palate shows freshness and displays lemon and almond meal characters. Regular lees stirring has added complexity and a creamy texture creating a wine of excellent balance and length.
